Warts are certain skin growths that can be rough and appear like solid blisters and many other types. There are about 10 types of warts ranging from the common wart which is raised with a rough surface, to a filiform or digitate wart which is thread or finger like. Additionally there are genital warts, flat warts, mosaic warts, periungual and plantar warts.

Warts are most often harmless and do not cause discomfort, though some types of warts such as plantar warts can be hard and at time painful. For the most part they can be annoying or irritating and you can consider simply ignoring the warts because they are not harmful or bad for health.

The main problem with warts is the fact that they are disfiguring and repulsive to look at particularly when they are located in areas such as near the eyes, lips and elsewhere on the face.

Also warts are unpredictable – they may disappear without medication and then reappear after a time. Another problem can be that some warts respond to treatment while others of the same type may not.

Treatment may be required for a long time before the warts go away, and it may be months before they are removed.

Genital warts prevention

Since an overwhelming majority (90%) of genital warts is caused by the HPV (human Papilloma virus) viral infection, it may be possible to prevent these warts from occurring in the first place by getting a Gardasil vaccine. This vaccine is also known as the cervical cancer vaccine and is known to prevent HPV infection and consequently certain cancers as well as genital warts.

Treatment for warts

For other types of warts over the counter treatments that contain salicylic acid are effective for removal. Warts are often composed of the protein known as keratin, and products containing salicylic acid act as keratolytic medication to help dissolve the material that makes up the warts. This medication may be in the form of topical salves, gels, pads, tapes and so on.

Duct tape is a home remedy for warts that works by simply by suffocating the unwanted growth. Any non-breathable material is useful for this type of home wart removal.

There are also available certain products that claim to “freeze off” warts using cryotherapy. They come in the form of aerosol sprays designed for home use, or the same procedure can be done in a clinical setting using liquid nitrogen as well.

One of the most visible side effects of the STD, known as HPV or human papilloma virus is warts.

Although they are non-cancerous warts they are a sign of infection and thus can spread quickly and be unpleasant to your appearance.

There are several different ways that warts can be spread to you and many different ways that you can get HPV which include direct contact with the wart of someone with HPV, direct contact with someone who does not show any symptoms but carries HPV, unprotected sexual activity, and by touching an object that has been used or also touched by someone with HPV.

The reason why there are so many ways to get the HPV virus and the warts that follow is because HPV is highly contagious and spreads easily which is why it is important to identify if you have it so that you can not only treat symptoms but control spreading it yourself.

In fact, children often carry the virus because they come in contact with a parent and then in turn participate in a contact sport such as football or soccer and pass it to their teammates without realizing what is happening.

One of the reasons that this can easily happen is because not everyone who has HPV shows signs of growth, thus they pass it along without actually developing the tell tale warts themselves.

It is possible to carry the HPV virus and never show any signs, but throughout this time period you can still pass it along to other people who will show visible signs of the HPV virus and begin to develop warts.

The HPV virus is so easy to spread that you may simply touch the shoes or towels of someone who has the virus and grow warts as a result of the contact.

There are different strains of the HPV virus that may cause genital warts in particular which are passed during unprotected sexual activity between two partners when one carries or shows visible signs of the disease.

HPV can be found in many places outside of just the sexual area as the virus can live for up to several years outside of the body.

However, they are the most powerful when left untreated in the body because they multiply at a very fast rate and are much more active.

They also sometimes grow when left behind in moist areas such as swimming pool locker rooms, bathrooms, and public showers. This is why it is important to always wear some type of shoe covering when in public areas.

Wart is a skin infection caused by a virus called human pappillomavirus (HPV), a group of viruses that includes more than hundred different strains.

The HPV virus generally attacks the cells in the upper layer of the skin and appears as bumps or growths on the skin.

Destroying the warts is possible with warts treatment. The warts treatment usually prevents the warts from spreading to other parts of the body as well as to others.

Warts can be treated in several different ways. However, it depends on the type of the warts, the age of the patient, and patient’s preference.

The strains of HPV virus cause various types of warts. The main types of warts are common warts, plantar wart, flat warts, and genital warts. The warts are highly contagious and can pass easily from person to person through sexual contacts and any type of skin-to-skin contact.

Common warts are usually harmless. These are rigid and appear as light gray, yellow, or brown growths on the skin and may occur anywhere on the body. The most common warts treatment for children is Cantharone, as it is most tolerable.

Liquid nitrogen cryotherapy is the most common preferable wart treatment for destroying warts. However, patients who can tolerate the pain mostly prefer it.

In this method, the warts are frozen with liquid nitrogen where the warts and the nitrogen-applied area become dead and fall off.

Removal of these warts may remain scars on the area. However, the use of pulse dye laser or Co2 laser can resist scars. The other warts treatment options to remove or destroy warts include keratolysis, laser treatment, surgery and herbal warts treatment.

Flat warts are flat, pinkish growths that mostly occur on face, arms, backs of hands and legs. The flat warts mostly need no treatment, as the warts disappear on its own.

On the other hand, a light liquid nitrogen cryotherapy is used to remove or destroy the warts. The other common warts treatment options include laser surgery, cauterization, and medications.

Plantar warts are non-cancerous hyperkeratotic lesions on the plantar or bottom surface of the feet. The most common warts treatment options for plantar warts include cryotherapy, duct tape, cantharidin and salicylic acid. These treatment options may use as single or in a combination.

However, if the plantar warts don’t respond to these treatments, the other suggested treatment options include: laser surgery, immunotherapy, imiquimod, and several other medications.

Genital warts are highly contagious warts type. It mostly appears as single or multiple growths on genitals. The warts can be small or large. The warts treatment for small warts includes podofilox (condylox), imiquimod and trichloracetic acid (TCA).

Never treat these warts with OTC (over-the-counter) medications, as these can cause even more pain and irritation. It is always recommended to use only doctor prescribed medications to treat genital warts.

On the other hand, the genital warts [Symptoms of Genital Warts] that are large in size and difficult to remove will be treated through laser surgery, cryosurgery, electrocautery, and other surgical methods.

Now-a-days majority of us have the problem of unwanted warts. They appear just at places where we hate to see them there.

Yes, these really bother us and annoy us sometimes with their appearance at most eye catching places.

Warts usually are not dangerous, but they can be bothersome. You will be surprised to know that some warts are not so good signal at all. Find more!

As we all know that warts are infectious growths that are caused by a virus. They can appear anywhere on the body. These may specify some signal which may not be so good at times, this depends on places were you encounter them.

Know this! Most of the warts are contagious. They can spread to other places on the person who has them, and they can be spread from person to person.

But this fact depends on person immune system as some may be more susceptible and some may be resistant to warts. They seem to come and go for little reason, and they appear to be sensitive to slight changes in the immune system.

You can even try some home treatments for these warts.

Remember that warts can be removed by your doctor but they also some back. Warts appear and disappear spontaneously. They can last a week, a month, or even years. To get rid of your warts, it helps to believe in the treatment. If something works for you, stick with it.

Try the least expensive method of treating warts that you can think of. You may save a trip to your doctor.

Try this Out! If the wart is in the way, reduce its size with a pumice stone or an over-the-counter salicylic acid solution (Compound W). This drug can be irritating in high concentrations; you may need to use a milder form for a longer period of time.

If you find the wart bleeding a little, then cover it with a bandage and apply light pressure to stop the bleeding.

If you use a pumice stone, both the scrapings from the wart and the area of the pumice stone that touched the wart can be infectious. Remember not to touch these surfaces and dispose them safely.

At night apply salicylic acid solution to the wart, and rub off the whitened skin in the morning. Diabetic or peripheral vascular disease patients should not use this tip.

Apply a doughnut-shaped pad to cushion the wart and relieve pain.

Never Do This! Yes, don’t cut or bum off a wart.

A doctor should be consulted if the condition gets out of control. The conditions may include:

If a wart looks infected (increasing pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or discharge of pus) after being irritated or knocked off then consult a doctor immediately.

Plantar warts appear on the soles of the feet. Most of the wart lies under the skin surface, so it may feel like you are walking on a pebble. If a plantar wart is painful when you walk, foam pads do not help. If a wart causes continual discomfort, or if warts are numerous enough to be a problem.

Beauty Concern! If a wart develops on the face and is a cosmetic concern.

If you have warts in the anal or genital area don’t neglect as genital and anal warts are easily spread through sexual contact and may increase the risk of cervical cancer.

So now you know how you can treat warts at home and how important it is to go to your doctor for consultation when things become out of control.
