Dealing With Painful Keloid Scars

Wednesday 1 July 2009

scarsKeloid scars are formed when an area has been marked or scarred, the skin which is made up of tissue can grow over the affected area and slightly raised in size and pink in color.

These scars can hurt even though they are new tissue growths healed over existing injuries.

Men and women can be affected by these scars but they are known to be more common in young people under the age of twenty.

These scars appear when the existing injury has been filled and is then swelled by collagen making the scar more enlarged and engorged.

The scars do not hurt as such, but can lead to serious problems later on and could lead to the chances of you contracting skin cancer later on in your life. Keloid scars can be found on your chest, back and arms and even with modern medicine, there seems to be no cure for the condition.

The scars can be removed surgically if they tend to cause a problem and can be known to be quite disfiguring, if the condition is extreme. A simple way of helping the scars decrease in size is by dressing the affected areas with silicone gel. [Scar Removal]

It’s Summer - So Avoid The Damaging Sun

Tuesday 30 June 2009

sunburnWhile summer may be welcome after a long dreary winter and spring, it can be harmful to your body if you are overexposed to sunshine and develop sunburn, or with extreme overexposure, develop cancer.

To help people enjoy the sun without its harmful effects here are a few helpful tips provided by the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals.

First of all, you should stay away from the sunshine if it can be helped between 10am to 4pm due to the fact that the sun’s rays are strongest during this time of the day even on an overcast part of the day.

Aim for the shade if possible and be sure to apply sunscreen regularly if you cannot avoid the sun.

Regardless of what time you are outside, sunscreen is always a requirement.  Proper sunscreen needs to have a SPF of at least 15 or high with both UVB and UVA protection. Sunscreen should be applied about a half an hour before you head out and every hour or two that you are in the sun.

Finally, remember to cover your body as much as possible and apply sunscreen everywhere that is not covered including the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and hands which are all places people neglect but can still develop skin cancer.

Moles Should Always Be Watched For Changes

Thursday 18 June 2009

moleIt is advantageous to check the skin for changes and this includes the appearance of existing moles, the key is to know your body and therefore realize when changes occur.

As a child develops sometimes the cells of the skin group together rather than dispersing evenly, this is how a mole is formed.

This can continue as growth continues but stops by the time someone is in their mid twenties. If new growths appear at a later stage they should always be checked out by a doctor.

Most moles are small and fairly insignificant, either brown or black in color. Sometimes however a lot of moles especially on the face can make a person very self conscious.

If this is the case there are several options available to get them treated or in some cases removed altogether.

There are several natural remedies, which can be used at home and that are therefore very inexpensive. By its nature there will be no risk of scarring but often these methods can take long periods of time to produce any obvious results.

Easing The Effects Of Acne Scars

Tuesday 7 April 2009

acne scarsAcne scars can be very disfiguring but there are various remedies that will help, some will take longer than others to show results.

The most obvious precaution that suits everyone and assists with most ailments is maintaining a healthy balanced diet and drinking lots of water.

A good and regular skin cleansing routine should become as much second nature as teeth cleaning, during teenage years especially.

There are a myriad of products available for the various skin types and if you are not sure ask at your local pharmacy. The skin should always be protected from the harmful rays of the sun by using a good strength sun block or cream.

Certain vitamins enhance the renewal of skin cells and are readily available as supplements, these are in particular E but C and D are useful too.

There are certain procedures that can be used to correct severe scarring and those include a chemical peel and dermabrasion. These are usually performed by a cosmetic surgeon and can cost quite a bit, if you have a strong desire to take this course of action then always chose someone that had been recommended.

Ways To Help Avoid The Appearance Of Wrinkles

Wednesday 18 March 2009

wrinklesThe way your skin looks as you age is determined by various factors.

Primarily there will be a genetic element, which will influence your skin, and then other external elements can age skin and increase wrinkles, such as smoking and drinking.

Your eating habits will also affect the way your skin looks; the healthier the foods you consume are the healthier your skin will appear.

The first wrinkles on your skin appear when there is a breakdown or decrease in collagen in the upper layer of the skin; therefore collagen must be produced in order to refurbish the upper layer of the skin.

It is important to avoid damaging agents such as Ultra Violet rays from the sun, stress and pollution, some creams can help avoid or get rid of wrinkles and lines from the skin.

When choosing creams you should be looking for substances such as retinoid, which is a vitamin A element, which can help prevent wrinkles and hide any lines you already have.

Sunscreen is also an important defence if you want your face, neck and hands to appear younger for longer, wear sunscreen at all times, regardless of the weather conditions.
