1. Soak them in Olive Oil
One of the best ways to ensure that nails don’t get chipped off often is to soak nails in extra virgin olive oil for about 10 minutes everyday for about a month and then twice a week after that. This is an effective home remedy which will make your nails stronger and more nourished.
2. Use a Cuticle Cream
Good quality cuticle creams can really help nourish dry cuticles and prevent them from going brittle. Most of these creams have vitamin E which helps to make them stronger and healthier. Apply some on your nails and area around them every night and massage them.
3. Wear Gloves for Chores
Daily chores of washing and cleaning etc too could leave nails brittle and damaged. Thus whenever possible, make it a point to wear gloves for these chores to prevent them from getting damp and dirty too often. Detergents and other harsh chemicals could too make them dry and brittle but wearing gloves will prevent this.
4. Eat Biotin Rich Foods
Another effective way to prevent nails from chipping is to eat biotin rich foods. Some foods which are high on biotin include cooked eggs, liver, cauliflower, whole grains, avocados and others. Biotin has many health benefits and one among them is that it strengthens nails. You can also take a biotin supplement, if required.
5. Take a Multivitamin Everyday
Vitamins are important for your health and can do wonders for your nails as well. Some vitamins which can help include vitamin A, Vitamin C, and calcium. Their lack can cause brittle and dry nails. Either take multivitamins or calcium supplements daily or boost the intake of these vitamins through diet.
6. Drink Lots of Water
Drinking a lot of water keeps nails hydrated and this prevents the damage and the dryness. Make it a point to have atleast 8 glasses of water every day.
7. Massage your Nails Often
Massaging your fingernails will help to increase blood flow and will thus strengthen the nails. Use a good moisturizer on your nails every day.
8. Use a Filer to Smoothen the Tips
In many cases, nails tend to chip off due to uneven edges and tips. Thus it is important that you file nails and maintain them every now and then. Use a good quality filer and then top it up with a nail polish coat to secure.
