Freckles are red, round and flat spots of different sizes which may appear on the skin and are a sign of skin damage. Some of the main causes of freckles include genes, over exposure to sunlight, hormonal imbalances and others.
Freckles can appear on any part of the body but are mostly seen on the face and that is due to the fact that the face receives maximum sun exposure. There are many cosmetic ways to remove them but it is always better to go for natural methods or home remedies to get rid of freckles. The following is a list of the top 5 home remedies for treating freckles.
1. Lemon Juice
One of the best home remedies for freckles is using lemon juice. It has skin lightening properties and can bleach the freckle redness or brown appearance on the skin. You can either directly apply lemon juice on the affected area and massage it or try making a lemon scrub. To do this, you need to mix together half teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of lemon juice together.
2. Sour Cream
Another way to treat freckles is to make use of sour cream. The lactic acid present in sour cream can help with this and it can be used by applying it on the affected area. After application, let it dry for a few minutes and then rinse off. Apply some moisturizer and do this atleast once every day until they go away. One can also rinse the affected skin with sour cream daily. If sour cream is not present, then you can also use yoghurt.
Honey contains many enzymes which help to fade the freckles away because it has skin lightening properties. You can either apply it directly or use it with certain other natural ingredients like lemon juice, water, yoghurt, or wheat germ. Mix any of these ingredients with honey, apply it to skin and then rinse off after some time. Do this daily for the best results.
Another natural ingredient which can really help to get rid of freckles is papaya. You can make use of papaya juice on the skin as it contains papain which is a kind of an enzyme which helps to lighten freckles and other skin spots. You can apply the papaya juice on the affected area, let it dry for about 10 minutes and then rinse off with cold water. Do this once every day for about 2 weeks and you will notice a difference.
Onions too can work wonderfully as far as fading freckles is concerned and this is because of the fact that they contain sulfur which has exfoliative properties. Cut one red onion into thick slices and then rub these slices on the freckles twice every day. Continue doing so until the freckles fade away. You can also extra some red onion juice and apply it on the affected part of the skin once daily until freckles go away.
