Large numbers of people these days are opting for various cosmetic surgeries to get desired body shape and looks and among these liposuction and tummy tuck are the two most common procedures. Though many people consider these two body contouring procedures to be the same but the fact is that both of these are different in many aspects. Since both the surgeries need a thoughtful consideration before opting them thus it is important to know the difference between the same.
What is Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?
Abdominoplasty which is commonly known as tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure which is targeted for the abdomen and the midsection area in order to remove the excess skin by tightening the muscles. The procedure is done under general anesthesia in which an incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen.
During the procedure, the weak muscles and abdominal wall fascia are restored and then tightened and then there is removal of loose skin and tissues so that the area of the stomach gets tight and flat. If needed, during the tummy tuck procedure, a new belly button may also be created surgically.
Thus a tummy tuck procedure is a good option for those people who have loose skin and stretched muscle tissues.
What is Liposuction?
When we talk about liposuction, the procedure is not only aimed for abdomen region but other body areas as well like legs, chest, arms, buttocks and others. As compared to tummy tuck, liposuction is an advanced surgical process where vacuum is used for the suction of the extra fat from the targeted area. The procedure is done under local anesthesia during which incisions are done at the area targeted. Next with the help of a suction vacuum, all the extra fat is taken out and the incisions done are then stitched. The procedure is less invasive as compared to tummy tuck.
Thus this procedure is perfect for those who wish to get extra fat removed from various body parts.
Difference in the Procedure
The tummy tuck procedure is more invasive and the length of the incision done is also more as compared to the one done in liposuction. Tummy tuck is done under general anesthesia while liposuction is done under local anesthesia. The recovery period is longer in tummy tuck and it also involves more scarring and complexities like displacement of belly button. Thus if pain and procedure is considered, liposuction is definitely a better and more advanced option.
Which Procedure to opt for
Depending upon your problem area, decision between tummy tuck and liposuction can be made. If your major area of concern is loose, sagging and excess abdominal skin then tummy tuck will be an apt choice. Thus women who have lose skin after pregnancy and people who had lost too much of weight over a short span of time and have sagging abdomen skin, generally opt for tummy tuck.
Whereas if you are looking for fat removal from stomach and other body parts then liposuction is the answer. Thus people who have tight skin and are close to ideal weight but looking for excess fat removal and contouring their body parts generally opt for liposuction.
Many a times tummy tuck and liposuction may also be done together if needed.
