Saving on Skin Care – Some Tips
Posted on Jun 21, 2012 | Comments 0
Clever marketing and slick advertising has most of us convinced that the more expensive a skin care product the better it is supposed to be. However this really isn’t so. It is possible to get good quality care for your skin even if you’re frugal; we look at how this can be accomplished.
Saving on skin care
The Washington Post offers some tips to save on skin care: buy your skin care products from a drugstore. You can do this online or in a bricks and mortar store and you can also use coupons to make substantial savings.
Fancy brands are not really needed; generics from drugstores often have the same ingredients and may do the job just as well.
The fact is that in recent times a lot of research and development done in skin care means that you can get active ingredients at quite affordable prices so you can take advantage of effective skin care for less.
Products like Roc, L’Oreal, Olay, Neutrogena and Aveeno are recommended.
Check that the products you buy are not expired, particularly if you’re buying from a dollar store.
Look for active ingredients by reading labels. Vitamin C and E, pomegranate, and green tea are some of the ingredients to look out for.
Another tip for frugal skin care is to use one all in one product rather than a range of products that manufacturers try to convince you to buy. When you buy a moisturizer, use one with built in sun block for instance.
When using a face scrub look for synthetic beads, they tend to be less abrasive on the skin. To deal with discoloration of skin, look for products that contain hydroquinone. For very dry skin use a product with high concentrations of lactic acid to help repair the skin barrier. Vaseline is another inexpensive, non-glamorous product that can be very good for the skin.
Consider whether you do in fact need facials. They may feel great but they don’t make actual, visible difference to the skin. You can save a lot of money by passing up on them and using products that you do really need!
Other tips for frugal skin care
Use natural items like raw potato as a cleanser, honey as a natural antibacterial agent and lemon juice as a natural astringent; salt or sugar as natural exfoliant.
There is no need for separate products for the neck, eye and décolletage because the ingredients are basically the same and work for each of these areas.
