The Low Down on Getting Bikini Ready – Part 1

There are so many options when it comes to getting beach and bikini ready for summer so that there is no embarrassing follicular growth on display. Among the most popular and effective options for hair removal in the bikini area are:
Waxing
Waxing is basically pulling the hair out from the root, and when this is applied to the bikini area, a lot of us are likely to go “Ouch!” at the very idea. But keep the following in mind if you decide to wax the bikini area.
1. You can use an over the counter spray or cream to numb the area before waxing. Products containing lidocaine and benzocaine will help make the procedure a lot less painful for you.
On the other hand you could also minimize the pain by taking an ibuprofen or similar oral pain reliever about 20 minutes before you start.
2. Make sure that your hair in the bikini area is at least as long as one fourth of an inch before you wax down there
3. Use baby talcum powder and sprinkle it in the area to dry it and so that the wax does not stick to the skin.
4. Make sure that a new pot of hot wax is used if you go to a salon so that there is no risk of a staph infection.
5. Since the hair in the bikini area is coarse, make sure that you use a “hard wax” formula.
6. Remember that proper after care is a must – first disinfect using an astringent and then use a lotion or balm to sooth the area.
Shaving
This is the no-pain way to remove hair from the bikini line but do keep in mind the following-
- Use a good quality, sharp razor and make sure it is really clean. Some razors are designed to make the hair stand up on end, giving a more efficient and close shave.
- To see what you are doing more clearly, use a transparent shaving gel rather than foam
- Do not shave against the direction of hair growth as this will cause irritation.
- Shave at the end of a shower so that the skin has softened
Use an aftershave balm or toner and if there are red bumps indicating an infection, sprinkle antibiotic powder.
