Back to School – 8 Tips for Skin Care

Either you yourself are heading back to school or have a daughter who is heading back to school you may want to take or offer the following skin care pointers not only to maintain healthy skin and hair but also for overall better health and wellbeing.

1. Remember to eat healthy – yes it is easier said than done, but it is possible. Stock up on plenty of fruit and raw vegetables to munch on during the day. Junk foods do no good to your skin.

2. Identify acne triggers – Stress can trigger acne, late nights, certain food items and so on can all bring on a break out, so try and identify what triggers acne and then try and curb those foods or activities.

Also check if any skin care products you’re using (also consider any items you could be borrowing for use from a friend) could be causing breakouts because they are not skin friendly for your skin type.

If you have acne prone skin make sure you use non-comedogenic products to prevent blackheads and so on.

3. Have regular meal and sleep times as far as possible – If you don’t want those bags under your eyes you know you have to curb the late night partying to a day or two a week max. Lack of proper rest can show up on your skin and face in no time at all.

4. Don’t allow product build up in your hair and scalp – Experimenting with different shampoos, sprays, leave-in conditioners and products which contain silicon can cause produce build up, which regular shampooing may not remove. You may need a clarifying shampoo for this.

5. Don’t ignore moles, warts, pustules, blisters and so on that may appear on the skin. They could be the sign of an infection, some potentially dangerous as well, and should be attended to medically.

6. Beware of lice – It may sound overly alarmist, but crowded dorm rooms, shared baths and swapping clothes and other items of person use can mean lice. Not only in the hair but even in pubic hair, underarm hair and so on! So place great importance on personal hygiene there.

7. Look at your hair style – Tight braids, corn rows or even tight pony tails can give you a headache, and in extreme cases may cause the hair to fall out.

8. Look after your hands and feet – Friends giving one another a pedicure or a manicure may be a great cost cutting measure, but make sure that the filing and other implements that you use have been duly sterilized.
